Teruo Higa: the inventor of EM beads and pioneer of effective micro-organisms
A career marked by a revolutionary discovery
Teruo Higa, a Japanese researcher with a doctorate in horticulture, is a leading figure in the field of efficient micro-organisms (EM). His career began at Kyushu University Graduate School, where he worked on the cultivation of mandarin oranges. At the time, intensive use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides was the norm. However, Higa didn't just see the negative impact of these agrochemicals on the environment. He also noticed the deleterious effects they had on his own health when he was exposed to them.
This realisation led him to redirect his research towards microorganismspaving the way for revolutionary discoveries.
The birth of effective micro-organisms (EM)
After years of fruitless work, Teruo Higa made a fortuitous discovery: when he threw strains of micro-organisms onto a patch of grass, he noticed rapid, healthy growth compared to the surrounding areas. Intrigued, he perfected his mixture to create the effective micro-organisms or "EM" (Effective Microorganisms).
This unique cocktail contains around 80 strains of bacteria, yeasts and other micro-organisms, all from natural environments. Their combined action promotes the regenerative decomposition of organic matter. EM enriches its environment with enzymes, antioxidants and vitamins, revitalising soil, water, plants and even human and animal health.
A holistic vision and sustainable
Teruo Higa's work is not just about science. From the outset, he has been committed to making the world a better place by adopting a philosophy of life based on co-existence and co-prosperity. He believes that natural resources, like scientific advances, should be used in a way that benefits everyone, without distinction.
It encourages the abandonment of excessive competition in favour of a harmonious way of life, where humans live in symbiosis with nature and other species.
EM ceramic beads: an example of an innovative application
Among the many applications for effective micro-organisms, EM ceramic beads are particularly popular. Made from pure clay and enriched with micro-organisms, they are fired at high temperature. This specific process not only preserves the properties of the micro-organisms, but also enables them to offer unique benefits, particularly in purifying water.
The benefits of ceramic beads on water :
- Purifying action : They neutralise limescale and the taste of chlorine, improving water quality.
- Antioxidant action : They slow down pathogenic processes, contributing to better health.
- Regenerative action : Pearls emit vibrations which encourages regeneration, making the water softer and more pleasant to drink.
- Repulsive action: The beads emit vibrations, which disrupt the receptors of parasites such as ticks, fleas and other pests. These parasites cannot settle on your pet thanks to a natural, chemical-free process.
A scientific and philosophical heritage
Teruo Higa does not limit his work to science. From the outset, he has been committed to making the world a better place by adopting a philosophy of life that values co-existence and co-prosperity. He believes that natural resources and scientific advances should serve everyone, without distinction.
Effective micro-organisms remind us that simple solutions, inspired by nature, can transform the world. They bring humanity closer to its noblest aspirations: to live in harmony with its environment.
